Description
The Uffizi Gallery is a must-see if you visit Florence. Built in 1560 and known as the oldest museum in the world, it was designed by the famous Renaissance architect Giorgio Vasari. The Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo I de’ Medici decided to reestablish the authority of the Medici family.
After eliminating most of his rivals, Cosimo I assigned an office to the others to “keep an eye on them”. The name “Uffizi” actually means just that. After his death, his sons lost all interest in politics. His eldest son, Francesco I, brought his private collection of works of art into the building and made the Uffizi his private museum.
With this tour of the Uffizi, you will be able to quickly learn the history of some of the most precious masterpieces preserved in Florence.
At the end of the activity, take a break in the café on the terrace of the Uffizi Gallery. Enjoy the splendid view of the city, relax and take advantage of the opportunity to take memorable photos.
