Description
This is a combined tour that allows you to discover the main places and historical buildings of Venice in two parts. Start from the meeting point in the city center and let a professional guide lead you to the most characteristic places in the area of Piazza San Marco and the castle. After this walk, enjoy the panorama of the city seen from the water, aboard a gondola. Start the tour with an introduction to the history of Piazza San Marco and its architectural wonders, discovering also more about the history of the Doge’s Palace, which was once the seat of power of the Republic of Venice, and the surrounding buildings. Move away from the square and let yourself be led to the residential area of the castle, to discover this part of Venice in all its elegance, among the maze of narrow streets, also called calli, the numerous bridges, winding canals and large picturesque squares, known as campi. Discover the Campo di Santa Maria Formosa, one of the largest squares in Venice with the church of the same name, which owes its name to the apparition of the Madonna, the Campo dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo, where you can admire the famous church where the remains of many doges rest, and the equestrian monument of Bartolomeo Colleoni, an Italian captain of fortune. The ancient residence of Marco Polo, probably the most famous merchant in Venice, and the Teatro Malibran are also stops along the itinerary. After the walking tour, let yourself be led to Piazza San Moisè, the docking place of the famous Venetian means of transport: the gondola. Relax on board this historic vessel and let yourself be captivated by the magic of the Grand Canal and the smaller canals. Discover Venice from another perspective and admire its magnificent architecture, while sailing under the bridges between secret entrances, elegant palaces and hidden corners. The gondola ride will not be a guided tour. End this 2-hour combined tour in Campo San Moisè, a few steps from Piazza San Marco.
